Project Description

DATA AND DASHBOARD DESIGN

By allowing users to aggregate and manipulate data, this project aimed to help operations managers make intelligent decisions more swiftly.

The Challenge

Before BlueLayer, information was scattered across spreadsheets and accounting systems. Updates were manual and error-prone. A single incorrect calculation could lead into missed deliveries, inaccurate revenue projections, and reputational damage.

As a result, users spend significant time manually updating multiple systems and cross-checking spreadsheets just to confirm whether the numbers are up-to-date - Slowing them down from decision-making.

The Solutions

-> A REVENUE DASHBOARD

Ops managers can align revenue estimates with latest order and delivery data, while exploring different scenarios based on pricing insights. They can also track revenue sharing agreements and record revenue attribution from a single dashboard.

Terminology used here comes from Ops manager vernacular instead of a Finance person.

I introduced new interaction patterns to support more complex data tables and visualisations. I co-designed the filter parameters directly with users - prioritising the high frequency use filters in order to launch quickly.

-> CREDIT PROJECTIONS GRAPH

Users can visually compare incoming credits against orders and original estimates. This quickly shows whether they're hitting targets or have oversold credits.

At a glance, users needed to understand incoming and outgoing inventory, spot low-availability or fulfillment risks. When questions arose, they could drill into details without losing the broader context—supporting both quick decisions and deeper analysis within the same workflow.

-> DATA EXPLORER

For more advanced users, they can extract any given datasets within the software and apply specific filter sets and properties. This allows them to manipulate their own dataview flexible and beautifully according to their own data goals.

-> CHART GENERATOR

Users can represent any given dataset within the software in a beautiful chart that can be exported for use in management reporting decks, inventor relations, and media relations.

This project introduced a new colour palette and guidelines for tables and graphs. It was carefully selected to preserve BlueLayer’s minimalist blue and black primary colours while expanding it to support good data visualisation UX.

About this company

Bluelayer.io
Founding product designer
Oct 2022 - Jan 2026

BlueLayer is an inventory, revenue, and data management platform for carbon project developers.

The main user of BlueLayer is the operations manager who oversees this lifecycle end to end—coordinating with finance and sales to calculate availability, revenue forecasts, manage delivery, and report to leadership.

I partnered closely with the founders to shape product direction while staying close to the design craft, establishing strong design foundations and UX quality to scale quickly.

I contributed to 30+ features and iterations, helping secure 30+ enterprise paying customers in a short period of time of 2 years.

About carbon projects

Projects vastly vary in size, footprint and complexity, with budgets ranging from $10m for some of the smaller, agroforestry projects, to over $30bn for flagship Bio-energy projects.

Managing the credit lifecycle of a carbon project is complex and variable. Projects often have very long horizons, sometimes spanning over 40 years, with multiple phases of development starting with project design, moving through phases of validation, registration and implementation and then ending with lengthy periods where credits are issued.
